Answers to common questions

Frequently asked questions

The questions people most often ask before their first session — about the approach, the practicalities, and what to expect from working together.

If your question isn't answered here, please write to me directly. I answer all enquiries personally.

About the therapy

What kind of therapy do you offer?

I offer existential psychotherapy — a warm, unhurried approach that takes seriously the whole life you are living: your relationships, your losses, your questions of meaning. It suits people who are looking for depth rather than a quick fix.

How is existential therapy different from CBT or other therapies?

Existential therapy is less focused on symptom management and more on how you meet the givens of being human — loss, choice, freedom, aloneness, meaning. We may still work with anxiety or low mood, but from the inside rather than through worksheets.

Do I need to be in crisis to come?

No. Many people come with a quiet sense that something needs room — a restlessness, a doubt, a question. You don't need to justify why you're there.

Do you diagnose or prescribe?

No. I am an existential psychotherapist, not a doctor or psychiatrist. If medical assessment or medication would be useful, I am happy to refer you on.

Practical questions

In which languages do you work?

In English and Danish. Many international clients move between the two — that's very welcome.

Where is the practice?

Lille Strandstræde 10, 1254 Copenhagen K, Denmark — in central Copenhagen, easily reachable by metro and S-train. Online sessions are also available.

How often do sessions take place?

Usually weekly or fortnightly at the start; often less often as things settle. It depends entirely on what you need.

How long is a session?

60 minutes for individuals; 75 minutes for couples.

How much does it cost?

See the Fees page for current rates. The first 15-minute intro call is always free.

Do you accept international insurance?

Some international plans cover therapy with an MSc-level therapist. Receipts in English are available. Please check with your provider before we start.

About the first session

How do we begin?

You get in touch by phone or WhatsApp, and we book a free 15-minute intro call. That's a chance for you to ask questions and sense whether it feels right. If it does, we agree on a first session.

What if I don't know what to say?

That's completely fine. Most people arrive with a sense that something is difficult without a script. We find the words together — with room for silence and pauses.

Will you push me to talk about things I'm not ready for?

No. We move at your pace. Nothing has to be spoken about before it is ready to be spoken about.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. Everything you say stays between us, in line with Danish professional standards on confidentiality.

Online and international clients

Can we work online if I don't live in Copenhagen?

Yes. I work with clients across Denmark and internationally over a secure video platform. See the Online therapy page for details.

I'm only in Copenhagen for a limited assignment — is short-term therapy possible?

Absolutely. Many international clients come for a defined chapter — a few months or a set number of sessions during a particular phase of life.

Do you work with Third Culture Kids?

Yes, both younger TCKs and adult TCKs. The particular experience of belonging everywhere and nowhere is close to my own life and something we can explore together.

Let's have a first conversation — free and without obligation

The first step is often the hardest. You are welcome to call, write or book a free 15-minute intro call.
